The food I consumed on Day 1:

Approximately…
- One cup of lemonade
- 1/2 bag of mini donuts (this stand was harder to find than anticipated!)
- 4 cheese curds (can’t handle any more than that, Tim ate the rest :) )
- A few bites of yummy corn-on-the-cob (they have big bins by that stand now to “compost the cob”! cool.)
- 5 Sweet Martha’s cookies, followed by…
- 2 cups of milk

Mmmmmmmm…good thing the fair only comes around once a year. Tomorrow…I think I will go for some slightly healthier options – A pita sandwich? Maybe a pork chop on a stick? Probably some more corn on the cob? We’ll see! :)

This weekend we are headed to the State Fair!  I’m excited.  I didn’t really enjoy the State Fair much growing up, but then I married a Fair guru who introduced me to all the fun and excitement at the Fair.  We are going twice this weekend!  Ten years ago I would have never believed that would be me, the multiple-visit-fair-attendee.  Good times.  I’ll report back with a list of all the unhealthy food we eat and the most interesting sites we see! :)

The link below is to a blog at University of MN, College of Liberal Arts. The article is about my new boss Jeff as well as my coworker Adrienne. It gives you a glimpse into my new workplace and sums up the mission very well…

The routine of sitting at a desk for many hours of the day is new to me.  I blogged yesterday about my eyes having trouble adjusting to that much screen time.  I am also still trying to work out the details of comfort at my desk.  My “ergonomic endeavors” include the discovery that those wrist supports for keyboards are a great invention.  I have also grown to appreciate the value of a really good chair (I have yet to have one of those, and thus in its absence I appreciate the value of soon having one) :) And, of course, there is the whole computer configuration.  I’ve decided that I am not a fan of staring at a 12″ laptop screen for lots of hours, so I think I am going to invest in a desktop monitor.  Those of you who work in the corporate world might wonder why I have to get all these things myself – ahhh, working for a non-profit.  I don’t mind.  If I pick it out myself I am sure to get what I really want anyway!  On the to do list for the weekend – shopping for a chair, a good wrist rest, and a cord that will connect a monitor we already own to my laptop :)

I have to get used to having a job that requires much more time in front of a computer screen. My eyes are revolting. They don’t like it :) Thus, my eyes are too sleepy to write a longer blog. Those who sit in front of screens a lot feel free to offer advice! :)

Tim and I went to a number of gatherings this weekend and there seemed to be babies everywhere! We spent Saturday at a gathering for Steve and Natsuko – they are in town from Japan for a couple of weeks with their new little one! A number of others at the party also had babies.

We spent the latter part of the day on Saturday at Tim’s 10-year high school reunion. There were LOTS of kids there, though I never go around to taking any pictures. He had fun catching up with old friends, and I had fun meeting many of them for the first time.

On Sunday we spent some time with our niece Isabelle, she’s a cutie!

Introducing the babies of the weekend…

And, of course, our niece Isabelle! She’s getting cuter and chubbier by the day :)

Last year we learned that a local restaurant offers free dinner on the Thursday of the week of your birthday (with the purchase of another dinner, of course).  For the second year we visited this restaurant for what I call the “triple play”.  It just so happens that my birthday, Tim’s and my Dad’s are all this week!  Yay!  We had a great dinner tonight with a crew of 7 – us three, plus sisters and significant others, all for the price of 4!  Good times!  :)

Woah!! That freaks me out a bit. Though, as my mom said, “Think how old that makes me feel!” I don’t think she has much pity for me :) Yup, I crossed that mark today into the year of 27. Thinking back on 26, it was a pretty busy year, more so in these latter months :) Life is good though. I am happy to say that I enter 27 feeling good about where things are at in my life. Despite having a big hole in my roof I am blessed to have that be my biggest worry, it could be much, much worse. I am so grateful for all of the friends and family that surround me, both physically and from a distance. On this birthday of mine I feel immensely blessed. A thank you to all of you who make it so…

I ask myself why I wear so many hats – have so many different jobs that is :) After spending 8 hours at my new job, I spent about 2 hours on real estate, followed by 3 hours taking photos for a web design client. Most of the time it’s not that bad. I usually don’t wear all three “hats” for longs periods of any one day – it’s usually spaced out more. But not today…so I’m tired…time for bed :) Tomorrow…27!!!

We’ve been a bit slow on our basement-finishing progress, but it turns out that this time it paid off.  Since the tree fell on our house our gutters are destroyed and thus not working at all.  As a result of that, combined with LOTS of rain this last week, the ground is saturated and our basement has been experiencing some seepage through the foundation.  This is not an issue when are gutters are functioning.  The good news is that it shows us where the potential problem areas are BEFORE we put up sheetrock.  Plus, if we’d already had sheetrock up we would be worrying about what might be going on behind those walls right now!  This time being pokey pays off. :)
