Tim got an email today from Sun Country airlines advertising $49 fares per person for a one-way trip. We figured it probably had very limited availability but decided to check it out. In fact, there was fairly widespread availability amongst their many destinations. So, we thought, where do we want to go? Tim has never been to the Grand Canyon, and we’ve always discussed taking a trip there. Plus, a lot of my relatives live in AZ. Within a couple hours of getting the email we bought 2 tickets, booked a campground at the Grand Canyon for 3 nights, and emailed family in AZ about our upcoming arrival in their neck of the woods! We are not usually this spontaneous…it was kind of fun! And all for the total ticket price of $250 for both of us! (Doing the math? $49×4 does not equal $250…yeah, fees, but it’s still a great deal! Woo-hoo! :) Look out AZ, we’ll be there in April!

Sometimes curly hair is annoying, but I just have to laugh… My sister has a note hanging on her wall with a cartoon character sporting a wild, curly hair on her head, the quote on the card states, “Today, I don’t want to be a hair…I want to be a DRAGON!” I had a dragon on my head today :) Every time I took off my stocking cap and pulled my hair into a ponytail there remained this one tuft of hair that stuck straight out from my head. Each time I looked in the mirror and noticed the phenomenon I thought of the dragon quote and chuckled. :)

Tim and I live in an old house. We’ve done a lot to try and insulate, stop the drafts, etc, but in the end the temperature differential still wins. Today, for example, I spent much of the afternoon in the office doing some web design work. It was nice and warm with the sun shining in the windows. I took a break to grab a snack and I nearly started shivering in the kitchen! Yikes! The thermostat noted its usual 68 degrees but I think I’ve decided the hallway might be one of the warmest spots in the house :) The nice, toasty, sun soaked office was probably a couple degrees warmer than 68, and the drafty, shady, cold-tiled kitchen was not! Brrrrr…. I am looking forward to spring :) And yes, we’re too cheap to turn up the thermostat…so I put on a fleece :)

I always think of my friend Tom when someone discusses a “quarter life crisis”, probably because he was the first to introduce me to the term when we shared a house after college. Ever since then my friends and I joke about the quarter life crisis that occurs in the mid-twenties – what do I do with my life??? The big question :) This evening I watched a new show called “Quarterlife”, I had to check it out since the name struck a chord. It was pretty good, and one thing that amused me was that the storyline was framed around a blogger. The main character does video blogs and exposes lots of information about her friends, mostly without permission, which creates some issues in the storyline – gotta have the drama, right! The show will air on Sundays from now on, I think I have a new Sunday show :) We’ll see if it continues to be good…

Of the last 4 evenings I have spent all 4 catching up with friends. My friend Sandy and I were laughing tonight that our schedules are so busy we hardly have a chance to see each other more than once every month or two! This month a whole chunk of social gatherings got packed into the last weekend. Well worth it! After a month packed with work, night classes, homework and basement improvements it was nice to have a weekend of camaraderie with friends! Now the goal is to see those same folks again in fewer than two months! :)

I was chatting with a few friends this evening and a couple of them mentioned the possibility of starting blogs.  Do it!  I love it every time I get to add a link to my blogroll because that is one more person who’s life I get to catch up on frequently!  So, if you read this and you have a blog not yet on my blogroll, let me know! :)

It’s been a crazy month and I’m grateful to be ending it on a social note with a number of gatherings this weekend to catch up with friends! I spent yesterday evening with my friend Kate at the scrumptious Pizza Luce – yummy. We talked, talked, and talked some more – thus the absence of a blog entry last night since I was so sleepy upon arriving home!! This evening I had a rousing night of laughter and girl talk with friends I’ve known since high school. It’s hard to believe that I’ve known these girls for about 13 years! And we still learn new things about each other every time we hang out :) Good times…  (oh, and the good news update from the last blog entry – the cold-like symptoms subsided after a restful evening, a hot bath, a good night sleep and some Vitamin C – yay immune system!)

And I am not talking about the temperature or snow.  Nope, I am talking about feeling under the weather.  Grrrrrr.  There are LOTS of sick people at work and I’m fighting the battle.  Go away sore throat, headache and overall blah feeling!!  Heading to bed early with Vitamin C and Zinc in tow to try and sleep it off :)

This evening Tim and I stepped outside to check out the lunar eclipse. As we shivered we debated whether the shadow looked reddish or grayish, I argued red, he argued gray :) And then we discussed which three bright stars were neighbors to the moon tonight. The quiet night brought back memories of another time I paused and truly appreciated the lunar eclipse. Back in college I spent the night of a lunar eclipse snowshoeing in the woods with friends. I remember that the evening felt amazingly calming, the quite of the night forest, the shadows of the skeletal trees and plants cast on glistening snow. A reminder to slow down and appreciate…

Anyone else ready for the end of subzero temperatures????  :)
